| When is the
best time to start treatment? |
| |
Treatment usually
begins when the primary (baby) teeth have been lost. This
can range from between 9 and 13 years old. In some cases,
early treatment may minimize future problems. If permanent
teeth are present, children can be seen as young as 7 years
old. |

| How long do
I have to wear braces? |
| |
We're all different.
At the first visit we will estimate the time needed
for your treatment. Depending on the severity of the
problem,
treatment can range from a few months to a few years. |
| |
| Why do some
people have a lot of cavities or white spots when their
braces come off? |
| |
This is almost always
due to lack of good oral hygiene. We emphasize the importance
of taking excellent care of your teeth. We will also check
to see how well you're doing at each visit. When we begin
treatment, you will receive an electric toothbrush. We will
give you medication to help remove white spots should they
occur. |
| |
| When I'm finished
treatment will my teeth stay straight? |
| |
Yes, if you work at
it. Treatment doesn't end when the braces are removed. The
last phase of treatment is called retention. Almost everyone
will receive a retainer that they will be instructed to wear
at certain times or daily. The retainers will hold the teeth
in place in their new position. Your doctor will determine
how long the retainer needs to be worn. Some retainers are
removable and some are non-removable. |
